Supporting TRC's Calls to Action

Truth and Reconciliation in action

The University of Winnipeg acknowledges that we are gathered on ancestral lands, on Treaty One Territory. Our water is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation. These lands are the heartland of the Métis people.

We are committed to implementing the recommendations of theTruth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC): Calls to Action.

As we come to grips with the growing magnitude of Canada's residential school history and our place in it, we will continue to take actions required for reconciliation.

We know that as Canada moves into an era of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, education remains vital, and we must continue to work together as a community to:

  • create opportunities for Indigenous students,
  • collaborate with the K-12 system to create bridge programs to university,
  • offer courses and/or programs in Indigenous languages, and;
  • integrate Indigenous knowledge, perspectives, and worldview into our curricula and culture.

While we are proud of the work taking place to advance reconciliation, we know there is much more work to be done. We must continue to listen and respond to the needs of the community as we commit to the recommendations laid out in the TRC'sfinal report.
