The University of Winnipeg's Carol Shields Writer-in-Residence Program is honoured to announce a new and very special fund-raising initiative. During a search through the Carol Shields' papers at Library and Archives Canada, a researcher recently came across an astonishing find. The researcher, Dr. Nora Foster Stovel, Professor Emerita of the University of Alberta, discovered a previously unknown and never before published short story by Carol Shields. The story, entitled "Protein Dust," is both delightful and profound. With exquisite language and wry humour, it does what Carol Shields stories do so brilliantly, giving us a deep, unsettling glimpse into our own humanity. Thanks to the continuing generosity of the Shields family, the Carol Shields Literary Trust is having a first limited edition of "Protein Dust" printed and bound and has granted the proceeds to the Carol Shields Writer-in-Residence Program here at the UW.

The first 100 copies of this edition will be distributed to the first 100 people who make a new donation of $100 or more in support of the program. Please, no more than one copy per person. If you wish to make an additional donation as a gift in honour of a loved one and would like an extra copy, please contact Cindy Doyle atc.doyle@uwinnipeg.ca.
