Welcome!

The University of Winnipeg offers a variety of Indigenous support services to assist First Nation, Métis and Inuit students in their adjustment to life at the University. Below is a list of off campus services as well.

Aboriginal Student Services Centre

A student lounge is located adjacent to the ASSC administration offices. With an 80 student capacity, the lounge provides a safe and quiet atmosphere and is equipped with study carousels, meeting area, computer lab, locker and kitchen facilities and the Aboriginal Student Council office.

Services include, but are not limited to: academic advising, cultural and social activities, student advocacy and assistance, tutoring, and mentorship.

Indigenous UWinnipeg

They are a senior administrative unit that provides programming through theWii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre, offers direct support to faculty through theAcademic Lead, and works with a variety of stakeholders and Senior Administration to ensure Indigenous presence across the campus through the Associate Vice President of Indigenous Engagement.

Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre

The centre’s primary focus is on educational and cultural programs that are rooted in Indigenous language and knowledge to support community learning and engagement. Through these programs and supports, the centre aims to develop and strengthen pathways for Indigenous students to University, a part of which includes partnering with local schools to facilitate STEAM programming with an Indigenous lens.

TheWii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centreis open 5 days a week. Providing free and open access to the RBC Community Learning Commons (a computer lab with staff on-site to assist with anything from resume building and connections to other local resources), and an Indigenous-designed classroom accessible to community partners.

Circle of Life Thunderbird House

Ka Ni Kanichihk provides a culturally safe environment where the greatness and gifts of all peoples are honoured and where our cultural practices and values are practiced and Indigenous people can “just be who we naturally are.”
