Divided Prairie Neighbourhood: West Broadway’s Story of Hope, Challenge, and Resiliency Welcome to West Broadway, West Broadway is an older, centrally located neighbourhood in Winnipeg, Canada. It is an area with a compelling and diffcult story and history. Its growth over the last 50 years is marked by periods of hope, struggle and uncertainty over its future. In telling West Broadway’s story, we draw from stakeholders who reflect on decades of personal experience. As well, we delve into the neighbourhood’s history using an archive of visual and written documents. All told, these sources help reveal the reality of neighbourhood change in a diverse community located in the heart of Winnipeg’s inner city.Read more >

Indigenizing Housing First This project is guided by three research objectives. The first objective is to document and analyze emergent practices in Localizing Housing First, both across Canada and internationally. The second objective is to build on case studies and an environmental scan of HF program adaptations to develop a coherent strategy for locally adapting HF, specifically for Indigenous populations. The third objective is to develop Guidelines for Localizing Housing First for use in other jurisdictions, providing guidelines and clear examples.Read more >

Since 1969 IUS has been both an academic and an applied research centre, committed to examining urban development issues in a broad, non-partisan manner. The Institute examines inner city, environmental, Aboriginal and community development issues. In addition to its ongoing involvement in research, IUS brings in visiting scholars, hosts workshops, seminars and conferences, and acts in partnership with other organizations in the community to effect positive change.

The Institute of Urban Studies has been producing reports and publications since 1969. A complete collection of public reports is housed at theInstitute of Urban Studies Library.
