Winter Term to start on January 10

Information about the spread of the omicron variant continues to evolve.

Yesterday, the provincial government decided to postpone the winter return of K-12 students until Monday, January 10 to allow public health officials more time to assess the risk of the variant and determine other changes that may be needed.

In light of this decision, UWinnipeg will postpone the start of our winter term until January 10. Classes that would have occurred on January 6 and 7 are cancelled but may be made up at a later date. Our campus will remain in holiday closure mode until January 10.

As communicated on December 16,most of UWinnipeg’s courses will be delivered remotelyto begin the term. Postponing the term start until January 10 will allow parents and those providing care to school-aged children time to plan and make alternate arrangements if K-12 also moves to remote delivery.

Arrangements will be made to ensure that essential services such as security, physical plant, food services and campus living continue. Recreation and athletics services are aligned with public health orders and their schedule will be communicated through their usual channels.

I recognize that these changes are happening quickly and that many people are concerned. Please continue to take care of yourselves and others. We are in this together. Best wishes for a restful and safe holiday.
