Pride

The University of Winnipeg is looking forward to celebrating our 2SLGBTQ+ Community! Our theme this year is Library of Love. With this in mind, we are highlighting the stories of 2SLGBTQ+ people. We want to celebrate who we are and what has shaped us into the people we are today! There are complex intersections of lived experience under the rainbow, and we are committed to continuous learning in the areas of racial equity, justice, and Truth and Reconciliation. With that commitment, we have a new progress flag to be raised and we are continuing our commitment to Two-Spirit, Queer People of Colour, and Trans people by showcasing the flags on the sidewalks in front of The University of Winnipeg. Thank you, to Stéphane Dorge, from CoolStreetsWPG and their team for organizing this installation.

We have an amazing panel via Zoom on Friday September 10th from 12:30 – 1:30 pm that addresses our theme of Library of Love! And we have teamed up with Sunshine House to host a Drag Bingo on September 10th from 7-9 pm. The donations will go to the 2SLGBTQ* Student Award for a second-, third-, or fourth-year undergraduate student who is active in community service or demonstrates academic promise in research on topics with particular relevance to the 2SLGBTQ* community. A big thank you to Sunshine House and all the Drag Bingo Team!

As Chair of the Pride Committee, I would like to thank the committee for all their work and time. We like to call this the Pride Fun Committee, or at least I do! We need to continue to un/learn from each other and to strengthen our joy and love for our communities. Have a safe and fabulous start to the school year. Happy 2021 Pride!

Dr. Ruprai,
Chair of the Pride Committee

Greetings. As the President of the UWSA, I want to extend a warm welcome to all 2SLGBTQ+ students both personally and on behalf of my organization. The UWSA is committed to 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion and will advocate on behalf of students so they can succeed and live freely and authentically. We understand that 2SLGBTQ+ students may face distinctive barriers within the institution and we are committed to advocating for greater inclusion, acceptance and safety of unique gender expressions and sexual identities both within the UWSA and the institution as a whole. We will work tirelessly to create an enjoyable and inclusive university experience. Have a great Pride Week!

Kirt Hayer
UWSA President
