The University of Winnipeg

Usupport

The Early Alert Program has now moved to self service, as our new USupport module. As with the Early Alert Program, USupport will continue to connect students who may benefit from additional supports with the Student Success Advising team who will work with them to create a plan for success.

Student success at The University of Winnipeg is a community effort. Faculty and staff from all departments are working diligently to provide the best support possible to our students. USupport is a new tool that allows faculty to connect students with various support services around campus, through referrals to our Student Success Advisors.

Who are the Student Success Advisors?

A part of Academic & Career Services, Student Success Advisors are available to assist students in overcoming challenges and to address roadblocks that might impact their educational plans, in a safe, non-judgmental environment. They are positioned to provide steady support to students as they move through their academic program, providing guidance, skill development, and referrals to additional resources, as necessary.

Why should faculty and staff participate?

Instructors are in the best position to identify students who may benefit from additional support and skill-building assistance. Student Success Advisors regularly reach out to students whose grades indicate they are at risk of attrition from their program, but this outreach is necessarily delayed until after final grades for each term are posted. Earlier intervention is only possible with the assistance of our faculty and staff members who have regular, direct contact with students and can identify issues as they arise.

Through the new USupport module, instructors can refer students who may be facing obstacles in their classes to the Student Success Advising team. Instructors may highlight issues such as a lack of attendance, or missed assignments, or they may recommend specific supports for students who are not performing well in their classes.

为step-by-step instructions, please see USupport - How to Make a Referral[PDF] or view this "Making a Referral through USupport" video:

What happens after a referral is made?
