Museums and Archives (Calls 67-70)

The University of Winnipeg acknowledges that we are gathered on ancestral lands, on Treaty One Territory. Our water is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation. These lands are the heartland of the Métis people.

We are committed to implementing the recommendations of theTruth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC): Calls to Action.

Projects and initiatives

BIPOC Collections at the Archives.Thiscollectionfeatures links to Indigenous collections and related digital resources, including the TRC web archive UWinnipeg created in collaboration with the NCTR, LAC, and UM. (Calls 69,ii, 69.iii)

Indigenous afternoons in the archives.Dr. Mary Jane McCallum and Dr. Erin Millions have hosted a series of free archival research drop-in sessions to encourage researchers, students, and community members to spend time accessing and interpreting historical records at the Archives of Manitoba. Their work was recognized with a2021 Manitoba Day Award. (Calls 69,ii, 69.iii)

Two-spirit archives.TheTwo-Sprit Archives Collectionsupports scholarship and research while preserving the history and the contributions of Two-Spirit peoples. (Calls 69,ii, 69.iii)

United Church of Canada Archives.Thiscollectionretains many Residential School records, copies of which have been provided to NCTR, as well as records of the Indigenous Ministries. (Calls 69,ii, 69.iii)
