Meet the Sexual Violence Response Team:

Hemali Krueger Vyas
Human Rights & Sexual Violence Advisor

Hema is smiling. She has long black hair and is wearing a black floral shirt. There is a yellow painted wall in the background.Hello, my name is Hema and I work as the Sexual Violence and Human Rights Advisor at the University of Winnipeg. I am a queer, Gujarati educator who is passionate about health education and creating safer spaces for healthier communities. In my role here I can help support someone who has experienced sexual violence by listening, answering questions and connecting people to both on and off campus supports and accommodations. I also work to provide education and training around consent and sexual violence.

Over the past decade I have worked as a health educator with the Teen Talk program at Klinic Community Health. In this role I worked across Manitoba to provide accurate, non-judgemental information around sexual health, healthy relationships, body image and substance use based harm reduction. Additionally I worked as a sexual assault crisis counselor with the sexual assault crisis program.

Outside of my role at the University of Winnipeg, I am a co-director at Red Tent. Red Tent is an organization that provides trauma informed anti-oppression education, crisis response and physical safer spaces to festivals, venues and organizations. I sit on the board of Women's Health Clinic and on the BIPOC Advisory Team at Camp Aurora.

Stacey Belding
Human Rights and Diversity Officer

Stacey is smiling, she has mid length wavy brown hair. There is a white wall behind her.Hello, my name is Stacey and I oversee the UW Human Rights and Diversity Office’s activities regarding human rights, employment equity, accessibility, respectful workplace, and sexual violence prevention. Along with taking reports under the UW Sexual Violence Prevention Policy, I provide advice to members of the University community about options for addressing sexualized violence. I also help facilitate accommodations for affected faculty/staff and provide education and training around sexual violence.

Prior to completing a law degree, I pursued an Honours in Sociology that included research into the legal treatment of sexual violence. I practiced law for over a decade and worked as the Manager of Investigation and Policy Development at the Manitoba Human Rights Commission before joining the University. My volunteer experience includes providing pro bono legal advice as a member of the Philippine Consular Services team and serving as a board member of an international development non-profit organization.

Outside of work I love to spend time with my family and can be found doing yoga, traveling, camping, hiking, or cooking (and eating!) delicious vegan food. I can be reached ats.belding@uwinnipeg.caor(204) 988-7508(confidential line).
