The University of Winnipeg provides wireless network service on campus to all Faculty, Staff and Students through a service named Eduroam. Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, worldwide roaming wireless network developed for the international research and education community. Service is available to everyone who has either a UWinnipeg email or webmail account.

We would like to invite you to connect any of your mobile devices to the Eduroam wireless network anywhere on campus using the instructions provided below.

SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS – MUST BE PERFORMED ON CAMPUS

ANDROID PHONES

Android Devices Wireless Setup [PDF]
  • Open your ‘Apps’ menu. Open the Google Play Store app.
  • In Google Play, please search for ‘Eduroam’. The ‘eduroam CAT’ app should be top of the results. Please select ‘Install’.
  • You will likely get a warning that eduroam CAT needs access to Location and other items. Select ‘Accept’.
  • Once downloaded and installed, please select ‘Open’.
  • A screen titled ‘Configuration File Summary’ will appear. Please ensure the top line states ‘Provider Name: University of Winnipeg’
  • Select ‘Install’. If a warning screen appears asking to install the profile, please select ‘Yes’.
  • You will be asked to enter your username. Faculty and Staff, please enter your UWinnipeg email address. Students, please use your Webmail address.
  • Please enter your password. For Faculty and Staff, this will be your network (computer logon) password. For Students, it is your WebAdvisor password.
  • Select ‘Install’.
  • Close any open screens. To check if your device is connected, please open ‘Settings’, then ‘Connections’. Under ‘Wi-Fi’ it should indicate ‘eduroam’.

MS WINDOWS (10, 8, 7)

  • Select the Start button (Windows icon usually in the bottom left corner) then select ‘Settings’.
  • On the Windows Settings screen, select ‘Network & Internet’.
  • On the left hand side, there will be numerous options, please select ‘Wi-Fi’.
  • On the Wi-Fi screen, please select ‘Show available networks’.

OR alternatively, select the Network or Wi-Fi icon in the notification area

  • In the list of networks, click on ‘Eduroam’, then click on the ‘Connect’ button.
  • You will be asked to enter your username. Faculty and Staff, please enter your UWinnipeg email address. Students, please use your Webmail address.
  • Please enter your password. For Faculty and Staff, this will be your network (computer logon) password. For Students, it is your WebAdvisor password.
  • If you receive a warning message asking you to continue connecting, please click on the ‘Connect’ button.

APPLE iOS DEVICES(iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Operating System should be up to date)

  • Open the Safari browser (Other Browsers are NOT compatible).
  • Go tohttps://cat.eduroam.org
  • Ensure the page displays:
    • Select Your Country: ‘Canada’
    • Select your institution: ‘University of Winnipeg’

  • Select the button labelled “Do you have an account at this institution? If so and if the other settings are OK, then click here to download’.
  • You will be taken to a new page that should display Service Desk contact information.
  • Select “Download installer for Apple iOS mobile devices (iOS 7 and above)”.
  • A warning message may appear stating ‘This website is trying to open settings to show you a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?”. Please select ‘Allow’.
  • New page will be displayed (from Settings) titled ‘Install Profile’. Select ‘Install’ (you may be asked for your passcode).
  • New page titled ‘Warning’, may state ‘Installing the certificate ‘COMODO RSA Certification Authority…”. Please select ‘Install’.
  • Enter your user name. This will be your UWinnipeg (Faculty and Staff) or Webmail (Students) email address. Select ‘Next’
  • Enter your password. For Faculty and Staff, this will be your network (not email) password. For Students, please enter your WebAdvisor password. Select ‘Next’
  • A new screen titled ‘Profile Installed’ will appear. Select ‘Done’.
  • Close out any Eduroam pages that still appear.
  • Check your Wi-Fi settings to ensure you are connected to the network named ‘eduroam’.

APPLE OS X (10.7+)

  • Click Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. If Wi-Fi is off, click Wi-Fi off icon, then choose ‘Turn Wi-Fi On’.
  • Under the section ‘Choose a network”, Tap the name ‘Eduroam’ to join.
  • You will be asked to enter your username. Faculty and Staff, please enter your UWinnipeg email address. Students, please use your Webmail address.
  • Please enter your password. For Faculty and Staff, this will be your network (computer logon) password. For Students, it is your WebAdvisor password.
  • Then in the top right corner, tap ‘Join’. If you can't tap Join, the password you've entered is incorrect.
